This book is not intended to be comprehensive regarding information security as a whole. Rather, the goal of this book is very specific: to present and discuss tools and techniques for collecting and analyzing data from potentially compromised Windows systems. This book addresses the activities performed by an administrator or investigator from the time an incident is suspected all the way to the point at which the decision to shut down the system and create a bit-level image of the hard drive is made. At this point, the situation has progressed to the point where lawyers and law enforcement officials are involved.
