Group Policy is so important to a successful Active Directory implementation that most administrators think of it as a component of Active Directory. This is mostly true—and it is okay to think of it this way—but you don’t necessarily need Active Directory to use Group Policy. You can use Group Policy in both enterprise (domain) and local (workgroup) environments.
