3D can only enhance the depth that is present in the shot. If a scene has not been staged, designed, or photographed with depth, the 3D will be minimal. These traditional 2D movies took advantage of the depth cues and used them to create the illusion of three-dimensional space on a flat 2D screen. This list is not suggesting that these movies should be made in 3D but the directors, photographers, and designers of these films did take advantage of depth. You may not like some of these films but they are all strong visual examples of staging, designing, and photography in depth. Turn off the sound and watch these movies for their staging, production design, and photography in depth.
