3.1 Introduction
We have touched briefly in Chapter 2 on image display. In this chapter, we investigate
this matter in more detail. We look more deeply at the use of the image display functions
in our systems, and show how spatial resolution and quantization can affect the display
and appearance of an image. In particular, we look at image quality, and how that may
be affected by various image attributes. Quality is of course a highly subjective matter: no
two people will agree precisely as to the quality of different images. However, for human
