1.3. .NET Enterprise servers
.NET Enterprise servers are Microsoft’s family of server applications for building, deploying, and managing scalable, integrated, web-based solutions. .NET Enterprise servers provide scalability, reliability, and manageability for the global, web-enabled enterprise. .NET Enterprise servers are based on open web standards, such as XML. The first generation of the .NET Enterprise servers allow customers to start building, deploying, and orchestrating scalable, reliable web services and applications.
.NET Enterprise servers can be divided into several functional groups, depending on the types of services it provides. This is shown in Table 1.1.
