Your personal computer can do more than just compute. It can also serve as a fully functional audio/video playback center!
That's right, you can use your PC to listen to your favorite audio CDs, and to watch the latest movies on DVD. Of course, the playback quality is limited by your PC's (typically small) speakers and (also small) screen, but it's a pretty convenient way to entertain yourself when you're working at the old keyboard.
