Abstract
This chapter focuses on the estimation of the surface longwave radiation budget (4–100 μm), which includes surface downward longwave radiation, surface upwelling longwave radiation, and surface net longwave radiation. Section 8.1 is dedicated to the background and methods for estimating the surface downward longwave radiation, Section 8.2 presents methods for estimating the surface upwelling longwave radiation, Section 8.3 presents methods for estimating the surface net longwave radiation, and Section 8.4 introduces the long-term ground measurement networks used to validate the surface longwave radiation budget retrieval and the existing surface longwave radiation budget products. ...
