The Future of AI Security
The attack lasted eleven minutes. At 2:34 AM, an autonomous system identified a misconfigured API gateway in a financial services firm's infrastructure. By 2:36 AM, it had mapped the internal network and begun lateral movement. At 2:38 AM, the firm's defensive AI detected anomalous authentication patterns and started isolating affected segments. Two systems then moved faster than the humans watching them could reason: the attacker probed for alternate paths while the defender closed them. By 2:45 AM, the defensive system had contained the intrusion to a non-critical subnet. The attacking system, calculating diminishing returns, disengaged before the on-call engineer had finished reading the first alert.
