ClickOnce is a proven technology introduced with Visual Studio 2003 and now tested and extended to satisfy all the major requirements an application setup package may have. You can create a shortcut on the client desktop, an application menu item in Windows, and take advantage of many other features like providing a help URL or an error URL.
