19 THE ESP32 MICROCONTROLLER PLATFORM AND IOT

The phrase Internet of things (IoT) describes a wide variety of devices that communicate or are controlled over the internet. In the past, building IoT Arduino projects that communicate using Wi-Fi was complex and expensive, as Wi-Fi shields for Arduino were cumbersome and had limited features when combined with the Arduino’s microcontroller. However, this is no longer the case, thanks to the Espressif ESP32 microcontroller platform, which has built-in Wi-Fi and Arduino compatibility.

We’ll use ESP32-based boards in the final six chapters of this book. For the best learning experience, you may ...
