10.1 Introduction
According to international data, Mexico is the biggest consumer of bottled soda with an average consumption of 163 l per person a year, which totals 300 million cases per year in the country, equivalent to the consumption of 163 l per person per year; meaning, 94% of the population currently consumes this type of beverage [1]. That is how the value of the Mexican soft drink market amounts to approximately 15.5 billion dollars. According to complementary information provided in the announcement, there are more than 230 bottling plants in the country that serve more than one million points of sale [2].
The main point of sale of soft drinks in Mexico is the small store, where 75% of these beverages are purchased. Meanwhile, 24% of beverages are sold in restaurants, clubs, discotheques, and hotels, while only the remaining 1% is sold in self‐service stores.
