Foreword
Congratulations!
As someone interested in AutoCAD, or as someone who uses it to make a living as many do, you have truly made a worthwhile investment.
I have used Ellen's AutoCAD Bibles as guides and learning materials for some years now, and they have proved invaluable to me.
First of all, it's all there. You are not going to get a more comprehensive guide than the one that you hold in your hands. Everything from the basics of AutoCAD to programming in AutoLISP and VBA is covered.
Moreover, the information is well organized, making it easy for you to traverse the 1300 or so pages. Both the contents at a glance and a comprehensive index make retrieving information that you need a cinch.
My personal favorites are the real-world AutoCAD drawings that are available on the DVD. As every designer knows, there is no better way to learn than by doing, and the drawings are an excellent tool to guide you through a series of exercises that are available with each chapter in the book. Even more helpful is the fact that the drawings are available in both a before and after format, allowing you to use the after format as a reference.
Ellen has been doing this for so long that she is practically a household word in the world of AutoCAD. A true friend of the product development team, she is an active participant in our beta program and helps shape the direction of future releases of AutoCAD. You are truly learning from one of the finest professionals in the field.
