It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
In Practice
Our practice exercise augments the user interface created in Chapter 11, “Swing.” The user interface we created earlier used XYLayout. It is time to convert our layout to use GridBagLayout and various other layout managers that reach our requirements. Let’s review the process again for converting XYLayout to GridBagLayout—for that matter, it works for any layout conversion:
- Align all components to their ultimate position and size before the conversion.
- Complete as much of the user interface as possible before conversion.
- Start converting the outer panels first and work your way in.
- Make minor changes to the constraints for the desired effect before attempting to check resizing requirements.
