Googling Yourself: Finding Yourself on Search Engines

Some people call it ego surfing, others call it reputation management. Whatever you call it, and no matter how egotistical you think it sounds, you need to search for yourself on search engines.

Why?

Because your potential employers, clients, and even former classmates are searching for you. People who are deciding whether to hire you (or to reconnect after “that awkward way we left things back in high school”) are going to search for your name to see what they can find out about you.

Do you know what they’ll find? Are you sure that they won’t find anything that makes you look bad?

More important, are you confident that they’ll find things that make you look good?
