National Courses are designed to develop skills and knowledge in a specific subject area as well as
skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work. Achieving a National Course shows that a
learner has demonstrated the specified knowledge and skills in a particular subject at the defined
national standard. Some of the new Awards cover work from across different subject areas, are
shorter than traditional courses and recognize success at different levels of difficulty, meaning
they are suitable for young people of all abilities.
