CHAPTER 14Special Purpose Valuation

PIECING IT ALL TOGETHER Special purpose valuation.
Special purpose valuations are tailored engagements conducted to address unique, specialized, and project-specific elements that require more nuanced knowledge and experience than many typical valuations for common valuation purposes. These valuations are typically initiated to satisfy specific objectives, such as litigation support, regulatory compliance, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, or asset impairment testing.
Unlike traditional valuations, which often rely on fair market value as a uniform standard, special purpose valuations may require the application of alternative standards of value and customized methodologies that reflect the particular context of the assignment. As such, these valuations require both technical rigor and a comprehensive understanding of the economic, legal, and strategic factors influencing the subject interest. The ability to appropriately align the valuation analysis with the objectives of the assignment and relevant regulatory or legal frameworks is essential to producing credible and relevant results, given the stated purpose.
