In this chapter, we will discuss the future of causal AI. We will ground our discussion in what has developed in the field up to today and lay out where we see the field growing and going in the coming years.

Where We Stand Today

As we discussed earlier in the book, the field of causal AI is emerging before our eyes. Causal AI is being developed and moving out of academia into the commercial world. It is rare and unusual for a new field to be born in front of our eyes, and we are living at a certain period in the evolution of causal AI.

Up until the present day, causal inference and the solutions that we refer to as causal AI are increasingly being embraced by technical innovators and leading data scientists. In the last several years, more businesses are beginning to understand that causal AI could be a valuable, important, and strategic technology.

Executives, business managers, technologists, and data science professionals are all beginning to understand the value and potential of being able to model and analyze the true and actual underlying cause-and-effect relationships of nearly any and every process that they seek to manipulate and manage in a proactive manner. Can managers and executives really change outcomes if we understand why those outcomes are taking place?
