Part IV: IPv4 Routing

Parts II and III of this book focused on Ethernet technologies, with most of that discussion related to Layer 2 (data link) processing. Part IV now changes the focus of this book from Layer 2 to Layer 3 (network), setting the foundation for examining IP routing.

Part IV creates a foundation for understanding Layer 3 processing on both routers and Layer 3 switches by explaining IP Version 4 (IPv4) routing. This part also introduces the use of First Hop Redundancy Protocols (FHRPs) and finishes off with creating IPv4 access control lists (ACLs) to control what traffic is allowed to traverse your Layer 3 networks.
