It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

従来、リクルートテクノロジーズでは、分析処理基盤として
Hadoop
（
Hive
、
Mahout
等）を
活用してきました。
Hadoop
は、サーバー台数を増やすことで処理性能やストレージ容量を容易
に増強できるため、これまで処理能力上の課題に対しては、サーバーを増強することで対応して
きました。
しかし、近年では処理対象データの爆発的な増加や、計算アルゴリズムの多様化／複雑化に伴
う処理能力の枯渇が深刻化しており、単純なサーバー増強以外にも、処理能力を向上させるアプ
ローチが不可欠です。また、従来レコメンド処理のライブラリとして使用してきた
Mahout
が、
MapReduce
でのアルゴリズム開発を打ち切るという外部動向もありました。
これらの背景から、次世代の分析処理基盤として
Spark
に注目し、その有用性を確認するため、
既存のデータ分析処理で最も負荷の高かったレコメンド計算のバッチ処理を対象にした
Spark
と、
MapReduce
の比較検証に取り組みました。
