쿠버네티스가 제공하는 가장 간단한 옵션은 NodePort 유형의 서비스입니다. NodePort 서비스를 사용하면 쿠버네티스는 클러스터 내 모든 노드에서 동일한 포트 번호를 열고 해당 포트의 트래픽을 서비스의 백엔드 파드로 전달합니다. 이는 추가 설정 없이 작동하며 클라이언트가 노드 IP를 직접 알고 있는 간단한 클러스터에서 자주 사용됩니다.
NodePort는 두 단계의 선택 과정을 도입합니다. 첫 번째 단계에서 클라이언트는 연결할 노드를 선택합니다. 두 번째 단계에서는 트래픽을 수신한 노드가 6장에서 설명한 대로 정상적인 백엔드 파드 중 하나로 트래픽을 전달합니다. 두 번째 단계는 쿠버네티스가 파드 상태를 추적하고 실패한 백엔드를 제거하기 때문에 일관되게 작동합니다. 문제는 첫 번째 단계에서 발생합니다.
클라이언트가 선택한 노드가 이후 사용 불가능해지면, 쿠버네티스에는 연결을 자동으로 다른 노드로 재지정하는 메커니즘이 없습니다. 클라이언트가 장애를 감지하고 다른 노드 IP로 재시도해야 합니다. 이는 클라이언트 동작과 주변 네트워크 환경에 취약한 의존성을 생성합니다. 방화벽이나 상위 시스템은 노드 주소와 포트 번호 목록이 아닌 단일 안정적인 대상 IP를 기대할 수 있기 때문입니다.
그림 10-1은 두 계층의 동작을 보여줍니다. 왼쪽에서는 클라이언트가 노드를 선택하고 클러스터가 요청을 무작위로 선택한 정상 백엔드 파드로 전달합니다. 오른쪽에서는 선택된 노드가 장애 발생했습니다. 다른 노드와 포드가 여전히 사용 가능함에도 불구하고, 클라이언트가 원래 선택된 노드로 계속 패킷을 전송하기 때문에 경로가 끊어집니다. 클라이언트가 (예를 들어 노드 상태를 추적하는 중간 로드 밸런서를 통해) 해당 노드가 다운되었음을 인지해야만 트래픽이 대체 가능한 정상 노드로 라우팅될 수 있습니다.
