Our purpose in writing this book was to provide evidence—logical thinking, data, and examples—not just that the CMMI and Six Sigma should not be viewed as competitors but that their joint implementation leads to more effective process improvement. Research has substantiated the hypothesis that Six Sigma is an enabler of the CMMI (and other domain-specific initiatives) and also has shown that, in turn, the CMMI enables Six Sigma.
