In general, the goal of visual effects compositing is to seamlessly integrate elements such as live-action plates, 3D animation, digital matte paintings, and so on. Part of this task requires the removal or integration of artifacts that naturally occur when motion picture film, analog video, or digital video is captured. Grain and noise are common artifacts that you can remove within After Effects. Conversely, you have the option to add noise or grain to elements that lack it, such as 3D renders.
