- Adobe RGB
A color space created by Adobe Systems to more closely match the output of inkjet printing devices. See also color space.
- AE lock
A setting for locking the exposure on a camera. Pressing a camera's AE lock button locks the current exposure and lets you recompose the scene without changing the exposure.
- AF (autofocus) lock
A setting for locking the focus on a camera. You can lock the focus either by pressing the Shutter Release button halfway down or, on some cameras, pressing the AF button. When the focus is locked, the camera can be moved, but the focus doesn't change. The focus stays locked until the shutter is released or you press the Shutter Release button. This allows you to recompose the scene without changing the focus.
- ambient light
The natural light in a scene, also referred to as available light.
- angle of view
The amount of the scene in front of a camera that a specific lens can capture.
- aperture
The opening in a lens that light passes through before reaching the sensor in a camera. You can adjust the aperture by changing the f-stop, which controls the diaphragm. Aperture is expressed as f/number — for example, f/5.6. Since the f-number is a fraction, f/8 is a smaller opening than f/4 and f/2 is a bigger opening than f/4.
- Aperture Priority mode
A mode where you set the aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed.
