Many companies have combined the distinct functions of development (programming) and IT (operations) into a single group called DevOps. Instead of one team writing software and another deploying and supporting it, a single team is responsible for the entire life cycle. This has led to improved agility and better responsiveness of DevOps teams to the issues faced by end users because the team works directly with them rather than one department removed.
