Abstract

This chapter explores the concept of “smart city” security development from a public policy, protocol, and ultimately a legal point of view, and from a perspective with focus on cybersecurity, and other technologies used to make “smart cities” operational. For scholars, both perspectives are inextricably bound up where political, social, and legal perspectives frame the use of cybersecurity either used alone, or in conjunction with other technologies, to provide government officials with monitor and oversight capabilities.
