0.5 CLASSIFICATION OF COMPUTERS

At present, computers are available in many sizes and types. Some t in the palm, while others occupy

an entire room. Computers also dier based on their data-processing abilities. Based on physical size,

performance, and application areas, we can generally divide computers into four major categories:

micro computers, mini computers, mainframe computers, and super computers (Fig. 0.8).
