A closed mold is a positive and a negative mold closed together to make a mask. The space between the two molds is filled with latex. The pig masks used for Peer Gent were made using this method. The mask is hollow in the thicker portions after the liquid latex dries (I don’t know the reason why it does this, but that’s how it dries). This reduces the weight of the mask and also provides flexibility. It is not necessary to add any foam strips or cubes to support such a latex mask because the mask is done with closed molds; it is a relatively solid piece and supports itself.
