In Act I, Scene 3 of Pippin, the main character has a fantasy scene with women strangers. In the University of Central Florida production, all eight players wore half masks to disguise themselves (Figures 6-1 to 6-2).
I chose heavyweight Varaform for the eight masks. Varaform is an open-weave material with a mesh and fishnet nature; it was suitable for my design. The Varaform is made of cotton fibers coated with a high-density thermoplastic resin that is naturally white; it comes in sheets or strips of different sizes. I used a sheet that was 45 cm × 60 cm.
