EQUIPMENT

Walk into the studio lighting department of any camera store and it’s easy to see why so many photographers are intimidated by artificial lighting. When it comes to equipment, the amount of choices can be overwhelming. There are softboxes and octoboxes and parabolic umbrellas in every shape and size imaginable. There are grids and barn doors and snoots. And then, of course, there are the lights themselves—and the stand and cords and everything else needed to get all these parts to work together.

It’s a lot. It can be confusing, not to mention expensive!
