When you start writing, you may face many pitfalls. Take the advice of other writers who’ve gone before you and experienced the same challenges and problems. This chapter includes the ten most important points to bear in mind.
Write for Yourself
Writing to please yourself is the most important aspect of becoming a writer.
Far too many writers worry about other people’s opinions of their work. You’ll never write something that everybody loves – someone will always criticize your work. All that matters is that you like and are involved with what you’re writing.
So shut your mind to your family and friends, and thoughts of agents, publishers, and reviewers – and just concentrate on writing what interests you, and doing the best you can. Check out Chapter 1 for more advice on writing for yourself.
