Our team is creating on-ramps for students who are in non-engineering/non-computer science degrees (e.g., social sciences, humanities) to build their technical knowledge about autonomous and intelligent systems (AIS), in particular, generative AI. The rapid pace of adoption of these technologies in workplaces and workflows potentially creates situations where those with the skills to navigate these technological systems have access to the future of the workforce and the economy, and those without such skills will struggle with participation in “the AI economy.”

We believe it is necessary for practitioners, future leaders, and researchers across many disciplines to learn more about AI technology and situate it in the context of their field of application to make better decisions on the implementation and use of this complex technology. Developing an understanding of this technology is key to more effective organizational and individual decisions and implementations.

However, in order for students outside engineering and computer science disciplines to participate both in formal education opportunities and in the AI economy, those students need a slightly different course sequence. These students need opportunities to develop deeper technical ...
