Until now, everything we have done with App Volumes in creating application packages and Writable Volumes has been based on the VMware VMDK virtual hard disk format and vSphere back-end infrastructure. But what if you do not have vSphere as your back end, or you want to use physical desktop PCs?

Luckily, App Volumes also supports the VHD virtual hard disk format, enabling you to deploy App Volumes in non-vSphere environments.
