A system carrying traffic with different characteristics may be called a multi-service network. Typically, such a network is designated to carry both circuit-switched type of services like voice calls as well as best effort type of services.
Since modern network technologies are using packet-switched technologies, the services are characterized by their effective bandwidth. By expressing services in terms of a basic bandwidth unit (BBU), the blocking rate can be determined by the multi-dimensional Erlang formula. An algorithm for traffic subjected to trunk reservation is also presented.
