It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Archive Signing
JAR files also support archive signing using digital signatures. Although this topic is beyond the scope of this book, you should be aware of the javakey program that is provided with the JDK. This program can be used to create digital keys and certificates, as well as to sign a JAR file digitally. A security manager can grant additional privileges to classes with an appropriate signature. You should go to the JDK documentation for more information on this subject.
