Prefaceto the Second Edition

In the first edition of this book, we felt quite strongly that the use of digital cameras, digital editing, and digital projection would enable a whole new breed of filmmakers. There will still be those with classical training in the filmmaking process, but, at the same time, there will be a new, and perhaps more intriguing, group of filmmakers who have no training in how images are put together but who want to tell a story—to tell their story.

In the end, whether a filmmaker is commanding a group of thousands, such as James Cameron did with a crew that at times reached as high as five thousand persons, or whether a filmmaker is commanding a team of three or four persons, the goal is the same. For each and every one ...
