CONCLUSIONCURIOUS ABOUT … WHAT’S NEXT?

In the last 22 chapters, we’ve looked at platforms and tools that are here now and will be important in the next 10 years. But what other technologies were not covered here, and what can we expect even further ahead?

As mentioned in the Introduction, the range of technologies covered in this book was deliberately not meant to be exhaustive. I selected the ones that corporate audiences ask me about the most, so what are some of the things I’m still curious about and I think you should be?

What Am I Still Curious About?

The rise of “big tech” is something that I’m fascinated about. It impacts us every day, perhaps without us realising it.

Just a few years ago, analysts started talking about the “FAANG” group of companies.1 Facebook (now Meta), Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google being the big tech companies that control most of the things that we see and do online. Many simply refer to them as “big tech”.

One could argue now that this list could be expanded to include Microsoft and Nvidia, creating a gang of seven tech companies – perhaps called FAANNGM?

As AI takes more of a foothold in the enterprise and consumer spaces, we can expect that these companies will become even more important globally. They will most certainly attract the attention of regulators as they seek to ensure that these seven companies don’t overstep the mark when it comes to the flow of global information.
