1.2.1 Types of Sets
Finite and Infinite Sets
A set containing finite number of elements is called a finite set. A set that contains infinitely
many elements is called an infinite set.
For example
1. The set of days in a week.
2. The set of banks in a city.
3. The set of hospitals in a district.
4. The set of teachers in a college.

Examples of Infinite Sets
N = {1, 2, 3,…}, the set of natural numbers.
Z = {0, ±1, ±2,…}, the set of integers.
Q = {x: x = a/b, a, b ∈ Z and b ≠ 0}, the set of rational numbers.
R = Set of real numbers, R
