When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
About the Website
To help you with your own data storytelling efforts, I’ve prepared some assets you can download from the book’s companion website www.wiley.com/go/effectivedatastorytelling.com. The password for this site is: Dykes2020. These files will show you how different charts in the book were created, and others feature diagrams that can be printed for your own reference and inspiration. Here are some of the files that will be available online:
- EDS_ch7-8_figures.xlsx: This Excel file contains all of the charts that were featured in the figures found in Chapters 7 and 8. If you have questions about how a chart was created, you can review the chart settings and formatting in this file. You’ll find one or two worksheets that correspond to each of the figures from these two visuals-related chapters.
- EDS_ch7-8_figures.pptx: This PowerPoint file contains all of the chart figures from Chapters 7 and 8. I shared this file so you can see how I had to augment some of the Excel charts in PowerPoint to create the final versions that appear in the book. I converted the Excel charts to images to simplify the PowerPoint file. Normally, the charts are just embedded objects.
- EDS_reference_diagrams.pdf: This PDF file contains some of the key diagrams from the book that may be useful as reference material. Based on reader feedback, I may expand the diagrams that are included in this file. Please let me know if there’s a diagram from the book that you’d like to see added to this reference ...
