Electric vehicles (EVs) offer numerous benefits in comparison with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, including lower operating costs, zero tail-pipe emissions and the potential to run on locally generated renewable energy. Wider adoption of EVs could take us closer to reducing the environmental impacts of the transportation infrastructure and achieving energy independence. Although these are very important goals, several challenges still exist in the wider adoption of EVs that need careful consideration. This leaves considerable scope for research and innovation.
