3Human–Machine Interfaces
The design and the development of human–machine interfaces (HMIs) is fundamental for technological advances in industry. This chapter proposes different practical and common cases where sensor system integrations are required, providing different solutions by means of artificial intelligence (AI) representing a topic of the advances in the passage from Industry 4.0 to 5.0. The goal of this chapter is to provide different schemes and layouts enabling control and actuation, describing local network architectures implementing digital protocols, AI data processing, and data security. The study is focused on the feedback systems and on the implementation of neural networks by means of logic ports. Specifically, some solutions for parameter setting and for production variable classification are discussed. The neural network feedback systems are discussed, explaining how the information networks operate for the classification and for the definition of decision making. Mechatronic interfaces aid the research on the automatisms allowing self‐adaptive production processes by means of HMIs implementing intelligent feedback systems, and of AI‐based machine‐to‐machine (M2M) facilities. This chapter discusses advanced feedback controls by neural networks managing programmable logic controller (PLC) units, and supporting product defect classification, machine failure prediction, and system control and actuation. The information infrastructure, enabling the upgraded ...
