Applications of ESS in Renewable Energy Microgrids
This chapter discusses several applications of energy storage systems (ESS) in renewable energy microgrids. The configuration of ESS applied in microgrid is introduced at the beginning, including aggregated and distributed ESS. The energy management system includes load leveling and peak shifting features, which are widely used to mitigate load fluctuations and improve power quality. Next, the ESS that is used to suppress fluctuations in renewable sources is introduced, including constant power control, output filtering and ramp-rate control.
