This chapter explains how to draw threads, washers, keys, and springs. It explains how to use fasteners to join parts together and describes the design uses for washers, keys, and springs.
This chapter suggests in many places that you create blocks and wblocked drawings of the various thread and fastener shapes. Thread representations, fastener head shapes, set screws, and both internal and external thread representations for orthographic views and sectional views are so common in technical drawings that it is good practice to create a set of blocks and drawings that can be used on future drawings in order to avoid having to redraw a thread shape every time it is needed.
