Chapter 11. Conclusions and Outlook

In the following discussion with Christian Thiemich (Senior Solution Architect at Bosch SI) and Narayanan “NR” Ramanathan (VP & Global Head – Connected Engineering & Analytics at Tech Mahindra), we review their experience of implementing the first milestone of the Track & Trace testbed based on the Ignite | IoT Methodology.

Dirk Slama: Christian, what was the key learning from this project for you so far?

Christian Thiemich: Working in an internationally distributed team, spanning Singapore, Bangalore, Germany, and Canada, is not always easy. Because we all speak different languages, it was important that we at least agreed on one methodology, to help us focus on what was most important.

Dirk Slama: NR, what else?

Narayanan Ramanathan: The Ignite framework provides a checklist of the main points that need to be covered in order to bring your business ideas to life. This helped us with Phase 1 of the development of the Track & Trace testbed.

Dirk Slama: Did the fact that this was also an Industrial Internet Consortium testbed have a role to play in this project?

Christian Thiemich: Because the focus of the Industrial Internet Consortium is a fast, go-to-market strategy, there is always room for improvement. This approach lent itself well to the Ignite framework, which allows for an Agile or more classical development strategy. It provided the structural support we needed to start splitting up the different work packages and get things done.
