It's better if programmers don't write stories. We want all the stories to belong to the customer, not just in name but in their heart. There are some times when the programmers may help the customer write the stories. For example, if the customer doesn't know how to write stories, the programmers may need to work with her to find out what the system needs to do. These conversations become the stories. It may seem that you know something the customer will want. Talk with the customer about it, but resist the temptation to write the stories. XP depends on the circle of life, with the customer defining and the programmer building. Don't break the circle.
