Spiking for Estimation
Remember the essence of the spike: you don't know enough about solving some problem to be able to estimate it. Therefore, write some sample code, so that you'll learn enough to make an estimate.
In this case, you are not here to drain the swamp; you're just here to kill one alligator. As soon as that gator is dead, and you can estimate how long the solution will take, move on.
