When I began this mission to write this book, I made one call. It started with, “Shannon I have this crazy idea to write a book for military recruiters.”
Shannon Vargo is my Executive Editor at John Wiley & Sons. She is amazing and gives me a lot of leeway, but I knew that this book pitch would be a stretch. Military recruiting is not a large enough market to interest a big publisher like Wiley, so I expected pushback.
But Shannon didn’t hesitate because she understood the mission and why this book matters so much. This is exactly why I am so deeply grateful to Shannon and the entire team at Wiley, including Matt Holt, Peter Knox, and Deborah Schindlar. Thank you for your support, trust, and patience.
Likewise, I’m in deeply in debt to Command Sergeant Rick Haerter, Captain Liz Albertson, and Sergeant First Class James Beaty (Ret) for your help with fleshing out the manuscript, editing, and ensuring that I got the language right. Thank you very, very much!
Thank you to the dozens of military recruiters, NCOICs, and commanders who contributed to building my knowledge base on military recruiting and encouraging me to write this book. There is no possible way I could have written it without you.
To my team at Sales Gravy, thank you for your passion for impacting and changing lives. I’m blessed to have you in my corner!
To Carrie, my best friend, confidant, business partner, devoted mother, and beautiful wife, thank you for going to the prom with me. I love you! ...
