So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Dissection of an Actual Probe Response
Rather than discuss the structure of the Probe Response MMPDU hypothetically, we will examine an actual Probe Response MMPDU, which happens to be 86 octets long, and was captured with the outstanding “Ethereal” protocol analyzer (Ethereal[2] is the product of an open-source programming project). While dissecting this MMPDU, we will also have an excellent opportunity to explore the concepts of “little-endian” versus “big-endian” bit and octet ordering.
[2] In some ways, Ethereal is actually superior to commercial packet analysis tools costing thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars. What Ethereal lacks in user interface polish, it more than makes up for in protocol coverage. I highly recommend that you ...
