Deploying WLANs at Home: A Case Study

As a case study, I will describe a series of events that actually happened to me when I was visiting friends after Christmas 2002.

The friends had broadband Internet access via a cable modem, which was attached to their only PC (they had another PC, but it was not part of the home LAN…it turns out that it wouldn't have worked if they tried to connect it, for reasons that will become clear in a moment).
