3 Mechanics of Equilibrium Flight

3.1 Introduction

In this chapter, we consider certain aspects of the mechanics of equilibrium flight which involves modelling of steady uniform flight and steady-state aerodynamic forces. Also considered to a certain extent is the analysis of the performance of the aircraft that is relevant to the equilibrium flight, and it involves quasi-steady models of flight dynamics and aerodynamics which can also be characterised as the very slowly varying component of the aircraft’s dynamics.
