When Focal Press approached me to consider pulling some highly reputed authors’ work together to make a new publication, I considered what subject matter I thought was absent on the shelves. As a Senior Lecturer in Music Production at Leeds College of Music, it occurred to me that many of the books on our reading lists don’t quite map, in detail, what we call the production process from start to finish—from inception to release. This book I hope, to some extent, fulfills this place on the bookshelf.
